46 Franchisors expand business overseas

GOVERNMENT programmes and initiatives in developing franchise has allowed 46 local franchisors to expand the franchise brand to over 50 countries worldwide.Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob said the total number of franchised outlets overseas has reached 1,413.

"Efforts will be intensified to ensure that they will continue to grow and the government will continue to support by providing funds," he said while opening franchise beauty centre ELV Wellness here today.

The government would also encourage more micro franchise packages to provide opportunities for the low and middle income group to become entrepreneurs.

"To date, 60 franchisors have produced franchise packages that will grow to create franchisees," said Ismail Sabri.

Some 5,580 franchisees have been created but the actual number will only be known when the amended Franchise Act 1998 takes effect on January 1.- Bernama
