Samsung seeks stronger revenue from SMEs

KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung Malaysia Electronics is targeting a stronger growth in profit and revenue from the small and medium enterprises (SME) segment in Malaysia over the next couple of years.

According to its business-to-business (B2B) unit vice president Varinderjit Singh, Samsung Malaysia targets to be the market leader in providing solutions for SME customers.

“SMEs now account for 30% to 40% of businesses in Malaysia and this will be the main growth area for Samsung. We will see more innovative products from Samsung for this sector due to the size of the companies,” he said at the Samsung B2B solutions launch yesterday.

“Our main goal is not to compete with other providers, but to co-exist to provide the best solutions to our customers,” he added.

On another matter, he said in line with Samsung growth strategies, the company would invest over the next 12 months in South-East Asia to provide the right infrustructure and support system for its customers.

“We are looking at a 200% growth in headcount in the region and 300% growth in headcount in Malaysia only. We are targeting more than 1,000 partnerships in Malaysia,” he said.

The newly-launched Samsung Enterprise Business Division at Samsung B2B offers a complete portfolio of solutions aim to increase efficiency, productivity and mobility to drive business forward.

As part of the launching, Samsung also unveiled its “Smart School Solutions” for education to encourage and support multi-way communication between teachers and students.

Varinderjit said Samsung wanted to be one of the leaders especially in education sector.

In 2011, Samsung's revenue increased to US$143.1bil from US$135.8bil in 2010. The Samsung group in Malaysia, established in 2003, has more than 600 employees.
