MELAKA, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The government plans to increase the
contribution of small-and-medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) to 40 per cent of
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the current 33 per cent, says
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

He said efforts and the transformation of SMEs to produce high-quality
and and high-valued products were ongoing via the SME Masterplan
launched in July.
"The SME Masterplan Plan aims to enhance the contribution of SMEs to
the national economy and elevate the industry to greater heights," he
told reporters after opening the annual One District One Industry
Showcase 2012 at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh,
near here.
This year's showcase, participated by 500 exhibitors including those
from India and Cambodia, is targeting cash sales of RM10 million against
RM4.5 million reaped last year.
On the showcase, Mustapa said the ministry was targeting the products
on exhibit to achieve high-quality status and bring in more sales.
