KEPALA BATAS, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- The government, through the Women,
Family and Community Development Ministry, has allocated RM400 million
for the implementation of 1Azam (End the Poverty) programme next year in
a bid to help the poor.

Its deputy minister, Datuk Noriah Kasnon, said the ministry targeted 65,000 participants to benefit from the allocation.
"The main objectives of the programme are to improve the quality of life
of the low-income families and to provide them with the opportunities
to earn extra income.
"The effort has been fruitful so far because as at Nov 30, more than 65
per cent of the 90,983 participants nationwide have managed to get an
extra income of RM200 every month," she told reporters at the launch of
1Azam Karisma Programme here Wednesday.
Fifty-seven participants of the programme each received small business
starter kit at the event which was launched by former prime minister Tun
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is also Kepala Batas member of Parliament.
