90,043 Low Income Families Benefited From 1Azam Programme

PETALING JAYA, Oct 24 (Bernama) - Some 90,043 low income families have benefited from the 1Azam anti-poverty programme since it was implemented in 2010.

Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Heng Seai Kie said monitoring by the ministry found that 85 percent of programme participants made encouraging progress.

"The participants managed to make RM300 additional income monthly while the rest have yet to be motivated to start their own business," she told reporters after launching 'Alumni Jahitan Kreatif Epal 1Azam' dan Business Matching in Subang Jaya Wednesday.

The ministry would continue to provide support and guidance to those who have not succeeded adding RM140, 230,000 has been allocated to 28,046 participants of Azam Niaga and Azam Khidmat programmes.

"For this year we have been targeted 13,237 participants under Azam Niaga and Azam Khidmat but so far,only 5,798 have met the target."

Heng urged small businessmen to take advantage of Get Malaysian Business Online programme introduced in Budget 2013 which aims to provide 50,000 of them with grants worth RM1,000.

"The government has allocated RM50 million to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for the programME.

"Participants of 1Azam can also apply to join this programme to market their products," she added.
