KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Syarikat Warisan Losong
Enterprise, known for its 'keropok' (fish cracker) products, is striving
to get halal certification to enable it to penetrate international

Assistant Manager, Suhaimi Ali, said getting the halal certification is
an added value for the products, branded under Keropok Warisan Losong
(KWL), thus enabling the company to spread its wings to foreign markets.
"At present, we are attending a course organised by Malaysian
Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) and UniSZA
(Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin) to enable us to obtain the halal
certification," he told Bernama here Tuesday.
Suhaimi, 53, started the keropok lekor business in 1983 with a capital of RM10,000.
The business has flourished since then and the income was good so much
so that the company was able to purchase a piece of land valued at
RM75,000 in 1985.
Without taking any credit from finance companies or contribution from
any party, the company managed to construct a RM40,000 building to house
its operations.
"We looked for capital on our own to construct the building and since
then, our business has expanded and grown to what it is today," he said.
According to Suhaimi, the company's assets including land, building and
equipment to produce the keropok lekor, was estimated to be worth RM2
million.
Currently, KWL products generated sales of between RM3,000 and RM5,000 a
day and this can increase to RM10,000 a day during holidays or festive
holidays.
The company's keropok business is still strong despite stiff
competition from other producers, he said, adding KWL employs eight
workers comprising five permanent staff and three part-time assistants.
