The carnival, organised by Sykt Bina Usahawan, is a platform for hawkers in the Klang Valley to promote their businesses to a wider public, said Executive Director Nordin Mat Jais.

He said the 240 booths will feature foodstuffs, products from small and medium enterprises as well as groups eligible for zakat, and reflexology services.

There will also be a colouring contest, motor vehicle show, and counters by government agencies, including for payment of traffic summonses.

"Some 60 per cent of the participating hawkers are young petty traders including roadside peddlars," he told Bernama here.

Nordin said some 200,000 visitors are expected to the site, which is near a Sunday farmers' market and passed by many people on their way to Shah Alam.

To a question, he said the idea for the festival came from his experiences, from being a hawker with an uncertain income 20 years ago to being in a job with a monthly net income of at least RM3,000.

"I want hawkers to transform themselves into entrepreneurs and expand their businesses," he said.
