Musa, who is also state finance minister, said the state was aware of
the important role played by the SMEs to drive economic growth.
"The sector contributes significantly to boost socio-economic
development by providing jobs and the set up of businesses to generate
more income and hence create more successful entrepreneurs," he said.
Musa said this at the officiating of the Sabah SME Carnival 2013 here today.
The text of his speech was read by Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Radin Malleh.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Industrial Development Minister, Datuk Bolkiah Ismail.
The chief minister said the state will help the SMEs under the various
programmes under the Sabah Development Corridor which were planned and
implemented by the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority.
Musa said Yayasan Sabah was also tasked to help the Ministry of
Industrial Development and other government agencies to promote the
growth of the SME sector.
"I believe the SME sector will record strong growth with the setting up
of the Sabah International Convention Centre later," he said.
He said with the strong cooperation between the state and federal
governments, the prospects and potentials of the SME sector will be
bright.
However, he said, the SME sector in Sabah needed to be creative and
innovative to produce high-quality products which will be competitive
worldwide.
