Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (PKKM) Terengganu branch
director Khairul Hafizi Naharuddin said PKKM was confident the target
could be met because RM502,700 in sales were made in a five-day
promotion programme last year.
"Originally, we only targeted sales of RM250,000 last year, but the
amount reaped was much more and this proved the popularity of Malaysian
handicraft.
"In fact, the response received from entreprenuers who took part in the
promotion was also very encouraging. Requests to participate in the
promotion this year went up to 54 compared to 21 last year," he told
Bernama, here, Saturday.
Among the entreprenuers involved were in textiles, namely batik and
songket, jungle produce, handicraft including women accessories, metal
and pottery industries.
Several visitors who were met by Bernama said that they were excited
with the promotion which exhibited numerous 'unique and special'
handicraft products from all over the country.
