Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail
Sabri Yaakob said however the foreign companies should have an
innovative business headquartered in Malaysia.
The government wants local master franchisees to gain regional
franchise rights not just in Malaysia but in Southeast Asia as well, he
added.
"This trend will also support the government's desire to develop
Malaysia as the Southeast Asian franchise centre by 2020," he said at
the Malaysian Franchise Awards 2012 ceremony here Tuesday.
A total of 61 foreign franchise systems have been brought in and registered by local master franchisees, he said.
He also urged local franchisees to plan strategically, assess current
business conditions and make forecasts to enable them to handle
unexpected challenges.
Also in attendance was former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the patron of the Malaysian Franchise Association.
