KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade
Development Corp (Matrade) is on track to produce 200 new women
exporters via the Women Exporters Development Programme (WEDP) by 2015.
Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Mukhriz
Mahathir said the programme has to date created 80 women entrepreneurs
who were ready to export their goods and services.
"We will produce 24 export-driven women entrepreneurs a year and we aim
to achieve our target by 2015," he told reporters after launching the
"Malaysia Women in Export Directory" here Wednesday.
Mukhriz said about 19.7 per cent of the Malaysian small and medium enterprises were owned by women.
"The majority of these women-owned enterprises are in the services
sector amounting to as much as 91.7 per cent of their overall
participation as SMEs," he said.
