Sarawak SMEs Can Commercialise Massage Oil, Says Assistant Minister

KUCHING, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Massage oil is product that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak could commercialise, says Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development), Datuk Naroden Majais.

Naroden cited the success of a local entrepreneur who last year began supplying raw materials for the making of massage oil to a factory in Johor.

"The factory in Johor already has halal certification, and has a sales network not only in Peninsular Malaysia but also abroad," he told reporters before making a courtesy call on Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud here.

The visit was to inform Taib of the performance of Sarawak SMEs at the One District One Industry Showcase 2012 in Melaka last month.

Naroden said although the high cost of setting up a factory and getting halal certification have prevented the state's SMEs from producing massage oil commercially, they can still supply the raw materials, which are abundantly available given the state's rich biodiversity.
