Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong said that the programme allowed eligible farmers below the poverty line to apply for equipment and skills assistance amounting to RM10,000.

“The successful farmers have managed to generate up to RM20,000 a month compared to the meager RM600 a month prior to their participation in Azam Tani,” he said.

Next year, the government has allocated a total of RM40mil for the Azam Tani programme, which is an initiative under Low-Income Households NKRA of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP).

Chua also called for all parties including community leaders to be more pro-active in identifying and assisting low-income families to be registered under the e-Kasih system.
