Advance Pact gets RM600m job

LISTED Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd (AZRB) has awarded a RM600 million contract to Advance Pact Sdn Bhd to provide hospital facilities management services.

The contract, awarded through Ahmad Zaki's wholly-owned Peninsular Medical Sdn Bhd (PenMedic), is for more than 20 years.

Advance Pact is a company under Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera's (Teraju) Teras initiative.
Under the agreement, Advance Pact will provide hospital facilities management services to the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) teaching hospital in Kuantan, Pahang, for 21-and-a-half years from 2015.

AZRB UNIT'S AWARD: Company to provide management services to IIUM teaching hospital

The agreement was signed by AZRB managing director Datuk Wan Zakariah Wan Muda and Advance Pact managing director Shamsulbahrin Ludin.

In September last year, the Higher Education Ministry and IIUM signed a 25-year concession agreement with PenMedic to build IIUM's teaching hospital under the design, build, lease, maintain and transfer basis.

The hospital is expected to be completed by mid-2015.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, who witnessed the signing ceremony, said the government hoped to see more large Bumiputera companies playing an anchor role in supporting the business growth of other Teras companies.

"We are delighted to see good Bumiputera companies with specialised skills and strong track record collaborating in high value sector such as healthcare," he said.
AZRB has been recognised by Teraju as a Bumiputera Corporate Champion (BCC). BCC is one of the three key sources identified to help generate business opportunities for Teras companies as outlined in the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Roadmap launched in November last year.

Nor Mohamed said in line with the government's strategy in the roadmap, BCCs would help increase participation of Bumiputera companies in the economy by enabling them to compete in the open market without heavy reliance on government contracts.

"This will in turn trigger various business opportunities for themselves and other Bumiputera companies," he added.

Teraju chief executive officer Husni Salleh said the Teras programme was aimed at developing Bumiputera companies by facilitating access to business opportunities and creating enablers for them to grow and be competitive.
