PETALING JAYA: Selangor Dredging Bhd’s (SDB’s) managing director Teh Lip Kim was awarded the Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award on July 11, under the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2012.
The award, which was presented in Kuala Lumpur, was in recognition of her outstanding effort and perseverance in growing SDB as a business.
Late last month, SDB had won the Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Award, under the Social Empowerment category.
The property development company had won the award for One Two Juice, a juice bar located at its premises Wisma Selangor Dredging on Jalan Ampang. The juice bar is managed by a group of people with learning disabilities. In a statement, SDB said the CSR project was aimed at helping individuals with learning disabilities to gain the necessary skills to fend for themselves.
“Normally, there are many organisations that do a lot to help children with learning disabilities such as those with autism, but when these children grow into adulthood, not many companies are prepared to offer them employment,” Teh said.
She added that at the One Two Juice smoothie bar, they were given the opportunity to learn the basic skills of running a business with the hope that they might venture out on their own later.
Teh said SDB was prepared to share its blueprint for the CSR project for free, as many other companies and organisation had expressed interest in replicating it.
Globally, SDB had received the Gold award at the International Star for Leadership in Quality Award in Paris on June 25 for its work in the property development sector, as well as for increased market share, improved results and sustainability.
Since the launch of its first project in 2004, the company has successfully launched 13 projects, nine of which are in Malaysia and the remainder in Singapore, with a gross development value in excess of RM2.55bil.
