In a statement Tuesday, SME Corp said the E50 Awards recognises SMEs as one of the main drivers of the nation's economic growth.
Introduced in 1997, the annual event honours the country's top 50 SMEs.
"Led by Deloitte Malaysia, an audit and consulting firm, the evaluation
is based on several criteria such as financial condition, marketing
and management," the agency said.
This year's winners, to be announced in November, will be judged by an
independent panel that includes Deloitte, RHB, TM Malaysia, Media Prima
Bhd and Malaysia SME as well as associations involved in SME
development.
SME Corp Chief Executive Datuk Hafsah Hashim said the E50 Awards
recognises the winners as among the country's best SMEs, able to
penetrate overseas markets and forge a better future.
Winners will also get wider market exposure and enjoy greater visibility, she added.
"Many companies have used this assessment as a report card on their
readiness to be listed on Bursa Malaysia," she said, adding 43 previous
E50 awardees are now listed on Bursa Malaysia and 13 on the ACE Market,
including Top Glove Bhd, a seven-time winner that is now one of the
world's biggest rubber glove producers.
In the 16 years it has been running, the E50 programme has received
encouraging response from industry, attracting the participation of
1,673 companies, of which 511 are previous winners.
