He said of this total, some 320,000 have
subscribed to TM's broadband and other information communications
technology (ICT) related services, reflecting the growing awareness
among SMEs on the importance of ICT as a key component in their
enterprises.
"The total number of active SMEs doing business in Malaysia is actually
about 640,000. So 500,000 represents about 80 per cent of the total
number of SMEs in Malaysia," he told a press conference here.
To promote ICT usage among SMEs, TM since last year has been organising
the TM SME BizFest, where successful SMEs describe how ICT has helped
to grow their businesses.
This year's event, to be officiated by Sarawak Tourism Minister Datuk
Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and with about 1,500 expected participants,
will be at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 18.
There is no registration fee. Prospective participants may register
online at www.tm.com.my/sme, with the first 100 standing a chance to win
an iPad mini.
