KUALA TERENGGANU, May 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade
Development Corporation (Matrade) has urged entrepreneurs in Peninsular
Malaysia's east coast states to move out of their comfort zone and
explore overseas markets for bigger profits and enhanced branding.

In making the call, Matrade Eastern Region director Hasziah Mohd Yazid
said although some local brands are of high quality and are widely
accepted, they seldom do consistently well in overseas markets because
local entrepreneurs' production is often too small to meet demand.
She spoke to Bernama at a workshop for 54 entrepreneurs from Kelantan,
Terengganu and Pahang from 36 sectors including frozen food, carbonated
drinks and pre-mixed coffee, textiles, wood and furniture, as well as
engineering, real estate and training.
The workshop was facilitated by A B Teoh, a senior university lecturer
in Kuala Lumpur and a regular contributor to Trademart, Matrade's
bimonthly newsletter for Malaysian exporters, and author of 'Exporting
and International Trade'.
Hasziah said besides including prospective exporters in the Matrade
exporters registry, the corporation also makes visits to local
exporters' manufacturing plants, working closely with the Terengganu
Entrepreneur Development Foundation (YPU) to help local exporters
penetrate overseas markets.
Upcoming Matrade workshops in the region include an export promotion
workshop in Kuantan in September, a batik and handicrafts export seminar
in Kota Baharu in November, and an e-commerce seminar in Kelantan.
