MARANG, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- As graduates plan to pursue their tertiary
education further or develop a career for themselves, a plantation
management graduate has thrown caution to the wind and ventured into the
coconut shoot extract jelly business.
Fadila Ismail, 21, a graduate from Universiti Teknologi Mara in Pahang,
has her own plans on being called an entrepreneur when she ventured
into the coconut shoot extract jelly business right on her father's
plantation in Kampung Batu Putih, Batangan, near here.
Her three-months old venture seems to be paying off as the response has
been overwhelming with sales exceeding more than 4,000 containers of
coconut shoot extract jelly at RM1 per container.
"I attempted this business on a trial basis and did not except it to
flourish. The response from customers has been encouraging with many
repeat customers.
"Day to day the demand for coconut shoot extract jelly is increasing
and I have expanded my reach to restaurants and grocery stores around
Marang," she told Bernama.
Second among nine siblings, Fadila said the idea to venture into
business began when she was pursuing a coconut shoot extract jelly
making course organised by the Maran District Agriculture Department.
She said coconut palm jelly was usually available in pandan flavour but
Fadila decided to introduce the coconut shoot extract jelly which was a
hit among consumers as it was sweet and had a unique flavour.
"Every month, I obtain my supply of coconut shoot extract from my father's plantation'
"I need to prepare about 1,500 containers of coconut shoot extract
jelly to supply shops and to meet orders from government departments for
various functions," she said.
