MALAYSIA Furniture Entrepreneur Association (MFEA) president Lor Lean Sen cautioned furniture exporters to check with the association before paying their deposits to take part in the Export Furniture Exhibition 2013 (EFE 2013).
"There had been fraudulent attempts to sabotage our good efforts," he said.
Lor was speaking to reporters after Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry undersecretary Low Yew Eng officiated at the preview launch of the ninth edition of the Export Furniture Exhibition (EFE) series here yesterday.
Low's presence was significant because there had been attempts by an unauthorised company trying to pass off as the genuine organiser of the EFE series.
The fraudster is seeking to collect deposits under the pretense of organising the ninth edition of the EFE at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from March 6 to 10 next year.
MAEPS Management Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Arif Othman and MFEA's Lor, who were clearly exasperated, reiterated that EFE Expo Sdn Bhd is the genuine organiser of the EFE series and not otherwise published in those misleading advertisements.
On the outlook for the year, Lor indicated that furniture exports are likely to expand 10 per cent to surpass RM8 billion from last year's RM7.67 billion.
"In the first half of this year, our exporters managed to ship out RM3.85 billion worth of furniture. We usually do better in the second half," he said.
