IT IS going to be a parade where the “sugar” will be found! As I frequently mention to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), this parade will be a platform where the ants can start queuing. It’s what SME Corp Malaysia does best!

Scattering the sugar in one spot, approaching the ants and then, bridging them through all sort of platforms. This is one of it!
I always believe that the success of Malaysian SMEs will depend on an integrated approach of all Malaysians.

In facing the new challenges posed by the global economy, Malaysian SMEs need to perform, compete and survive.
Believing that SMEs are in need of more support in establishing themselves to get a share of the economic pie, SME Corp will be organising an entrepreneurship carnival, codenamed “Jom Niaga”.

This “sugary” event will be held over two days in three states — Selangor, Kelantan and Kedah.
It is hoped that the event will provide a platform for SMEs to network, and will enhance business opportunities among its participants.

There will be an informative briefing session to be presented by related agencies and banking institutions which include SME Corp,Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, Majlis Amanah Rakyat, SME Bank, Agro Bank and Malaysian Industrial Development Finance.

The participation of these agencies will assist existing and future SMEs to start and enhance their businesses, taking them to a whole new level.

I strongly encourage SMEs not to miss this opportunity and to take this chance to participate and reap the benefits from the updates, information sharing and opportunities available at the event.

Most importantly, if you’re small, plan to grow and look to raise funds, you certainly can’t afford to miss the informative session as there will be financial advisers at hand, who will be able to give you tips on how to sustain and grow your business.

By the way, it’s not all serious when it comes to obtaining information. Join us for our tête-à-tête with successful entrepreneurs and famous celebrities, who are also successful in their business.

Think Datuk Siti Nurhaliza! She is Malaysia’s darling for many years as an accomplished singer, and today she herself has her own cosmetic venture. Also, think “Upin & Ipin”, Jakel, Mydin, et al.

They are all successful entrepreneurs today, who have started from humble beginnings. Tony Robbins said, “If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you’ll achieve the same results.” I could not agree more!

I assure you that contacts established at events like “Jom Niaga” come from all walks of life, as customers, market analysts, industry experts, financiers, accountants, lawyers, and marketing experts.

A perfect heterogeneous network available in one platform if only we care to recognise the opportunities before us. I fully affirm that networking allows entrepreneurs greater access to resources and provides boundless opportunities that can contribute to their business growth.

Not forgetting us, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls who fancy some form of culinary skills, a special live cooking demonstration will take place too, featuring signature dishes created and prepared by celebrity Chef Zam. Chef Zam, renowned in our country for creating menus inspired by our rich cultural heritage and distinct local ingredients, will demonstrate how best to use renowned SME food products to spin new, mouthwatering recipes.

This event also welcomes parents and youths to join the Junior Top Chef and the Culinary Challenge, a cooking competition organised by SilverSpoon International College.

The Junior Top Chef is open to all secondary school students who love to cook and are ready to take the challenge, while parents and their children shall not miss the chance to join the Family Culinary Challenge.

And of course, there will be more exciting programmes for our energetic youths.
Get Your Facts Right is one of highlighted segments jointly organised by RHB Bank and The New Straits Times Press.

It will feature participation from primary and secondary students.

SMI Association will be organising the Entrepreneur Quiz showing their (E-Quiz) contest that will see college and university students showing their business sense and talent.
The Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Gerakan Belia Bersatu Malaysia will organise an entrepreneur race ala the Amazing Race, called E-Race, open to all entrepreneurs.

I assure you the various segments at Jom Niaga will benefit everyone of all age groups.

So to all “ants” out there, need I say more? Do not miss the opportunity to grow your business by participating in this mega carnival with an entrepreneurial twist. Come and have fun with your families at this “sugary” parade!

There’s plenty of sugar to be shared! See you there! Don’t miss this opportunity — Jom Niaga!
