KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The inaugural CIMB Asean SME Forum in Petaling Jaya on Sept 24 is expected to attract over 300 SMEs in Malaysia and consequently help pave the way for their expansion regionally.

Themed, "Asean for SMEs", the forum will be officiated by Datuk Sri Nazir Razak, the Group Chief Executive of CIMB Bank and features a line-up of speakers who are regulatory, legal, tax and property experts from across the region.

"This forum is a clear example of how we can leverage our regional network to offer business customers practical advice on expanding in ASEAN," said Renzo Viegas, the Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Head of Consumer Banking of CIMB Bank, in a statement Thursday.

He said according to the Asean Secretariat statistics, intra-Asean trade exceeded RM1.53 trillion (US$500 billion) in 2011 and it is further anticipated, that the Asean Economic Community (AEC) will be a key driver for further intra-regional trade growth.
