KUALA LUMPUR: The small and medium enterprise innovation showcase,
SMIDEX 2012, has generated higher potential sales of RM247.46 million
from the business matching sessions, up 20% from the RM194.7 million
achieved in 2011.
Announcing the potential sales at the closing of the three-day SMIDEX
2012 on Friday, SME Corp chairman Datuk Dr Ir Mohamed Al Amin Abdul
Majid said among the industries that contributed to the growth were food
and beverage, information and communication technology (ICT) and
automobile.
During the first day of the business matching session, he said, a
total of RM120.5 million worth of sales was generated involving 39
companies, on the second day RM57 million sales were recorded involving
34 companies and about RM70 million sales on the last day involving 22
companies.
"Every year we have new concepts to attract visitors and business
matching. This year's concept is innovative living. Many multinationals
and government-linked companies have also participated in the event," he
said.
This year's event, themed SMEs – Shaping the Future and organised by
SME Corp Malaysia and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry,
attracted 7,488 trade visitors, he said.
Mohamed Al Amin said the annual event is expected to be held again on June 12-14, 2013 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
