Former Deputy Prime Minister, Tun Musa Hitam, said the involvement of GLCs in the economy was in line with the Malay agenda.
Musa said he was proud of the achievements of the GLCs especially Sime
Darby Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund with their expansion to UK
with the redevelopment of Battersea power station.
"Sime has operated in 20 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa and has a
strong management," he said at a dialogue session on "Survival of Malay
Economy" here Tuesday.
He said the New Economic Policy needed to be revamped where sectors
which the Malays were under-represented be strengthened to reduce the
disparity.
Musa said he disagreed with those who said that the Malay economy could not survive.
The Malay mindset needed to be changed to ensure that they did not need to depend on government help and subsidies, he said.
