Pahang Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, said the industrial park,
to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Feb 5,
should be capitalised by local entrepreneurs following the spin-off
effects from economic activities at MCKIP.
"And, I am very confident that this project will entail a lot of
spin-off effects...a lot of other economic activities," he said to
reporters after launching Riding for The Disabled Association Malaysia
(RDA) at Pahang Equestrian Centre near here last night.
Also present was RDA Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Rahman.
Adnan said he has held a meeting with the implementation agency for the
industrial park including the East Coast Economic Region Development
Council (ECERDC).
"At the meeting, they are told to give focus and opportunities to local
businessmen as I was approached by representatives from the Chinese
Chamber of Commerce (Pahang), asking what the benefits are for them from
this project," he said.
Towards this end, Adnan has given the assurance to local entrepreneurs
that they do not have to worry about the economic opportunities from
this project.
"I am confident that in the prime minister's speech (during the
launch), emphasis will be given on this matter. There will be a lot of
opportunities for local businesses. No need to worry," he said.
MCKIP represents a 'sister-park' to China-Malaysia Qingzhou Industrial
Park (CMQIP) di Qingzhou, China covering 5,467.5ha, which was jointly
launched by Najib and the Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao, on April 1 last
year.
