KUALA LUMPUR: The Association of Bumiputra Women Entrepreneur Network of Malaysia (Wena) will strengthen itself to help local women entrepreneurs by having its branches nationwide within two years.

Its president Nuraizah Shamsul Baharin said Wena's plan for the next two years is to grow in strength so that the association can be a "big voice" for women entrepreneurs.

"We aim to develop women entrepreneurs who move in their own industries and we will focus on five industries, namely retail and services, food, health, education and information communication and technology," she said.

Speaking to reporters at Wena's "New Members Networking Day" here yesterday, Nuraizah said the plans to set up branches nationwide forms part of its membership drive.

"With our aggressive expansion plan, we aim to double our membership number," she said, adding that Wena currently has about 282 members.

In her presentation earlier, Nuraizah said the association had gained the support of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp to help members penetrate overseas markets and rolling out programmes such as the Women Exporters Development Programme.

"However, many of our existing members operate as enterprises and our aim is to upgrade their company status to 'Sdn Bhd' in order for them to expand their business globally," she said.

Wena, established in September 2003, is a not-for-profit association, dedicated towards championing women's right in business and profession.
