Its president, Datuk Dr How Kok Choong, said Media Prima is an effective platform to promote businesses as it provides multiple channels through which businesses can disseminate information.

Media Prima owns television stations TV3, 8TV, ntv7 and TV9. It also owns The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP), which publishes The New Straits Times (NST), Berita Harian and Harian Metro.

Other assets under its portfolio include radio stations Fly FM, Hot FM and One FM, and billboard advertising.

"One of the most successful strategy to grow the business is through the media. Today's event is to showcase our members the various media channels available to expand their business," How said at the Media Prima-PUMM luncheon yesterday.

Present at the luncheon were Media Prima chairman Datuk Johan Jaaffar, its group managing director Datuk Amrin Awaluddin, NSTP chief executive officer Mohammad Azlan Abdullah and around 50 members from PUMM.

PUMM is a non-profit making organisation, founded in 1993 by Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew of Country Heights Holdings Bhd.

Its objective is to create a valuable platform for entrepreneurs especially those business owners from SMIs and SMEs, to share knowledge and experience, and to create new business opportunities through seminars, forums, workshops and business visits.

PUMM currently has 2,000 members and around 500 are active players in various fields ranging from property development to banking.

How believes that the future of the local economy can be developed and boosted by working with Malaysian entrepreneurs to grow their companies and start-ups in the country.

"The average revenues earned by each small and medium-sized businesses (SME) is RM30 million and RM50 million a year while small and medium-sized industries (SMI) make less than RM25 million. Our aim is to nurture them so that they can earn more.

"We will be launching a road map by the end of this year to see what is needed, including getting government grants, to help the companies grow," he said.
