ALOR SETAR : Seleraku Trading Sdn Bhd (STSB), well-known for its Sempoi Oblong Burger and Sempoi-O-Boolat Burger, plans to invest RM14 million to expand its oblong burger business partner programme.
Founder of the Bumiputera-owned company, Zunita Nordin, said the participants in the programme could expect to earn RM3,000 a month.
Zunita said with the assistance of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) the programme has received an encouraging response from the residents in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia.
"With NCIA's support, we have managed to increase the output by 15 metric tonnes a day and offer jobs to 50 local residents," she told Bernama here today.
"So far this year, there were 20 participants from Perlis. The number is expected to increase to 200 by 2016.
Zunita, who started the business on a small scale, now has a factory with 40 workers to process poultry products.
Since its inception in 2005, the company has invested RM8.2 million to expand its business, she said.
The company has also helped boost socio-economic status of the local residents and burger sellers. -- BERNAMA
